This cactus was a present from our son’s first babysitter, Teresa, who lived across the street with her mother and sister. Since she was rather young at the time, she was pleased we gave her a chance to earn some money. When we opened the package at Christmas, it was a couple of inches tall. The cactus has grown a foot every year until it now touches the ceiling. This year it is sending out shoots for the very first time. Interestingly, it’s the first summer we haven’t carried it outside. There is doubtless a moral in this, but I’m at a loss to know what it is. If you’re out there anywhere, Teresa, we value your gift and the special girl we trusted with our son all those years ago.
